Bursting with innovations: Hamm to unveil 18 brand new machines at bauma 2010
Lots of interesting new products and features are set to take centre stage on the Hamm AG stand at bauma 2010. A driving force in innovations, road roller manufacturer Hamm is to unveil 18 brand new road rollers in Munich, with more than 2/3 of its exhibits making their bauma debut. The new and extremely compact GRW 280 rubber wheeled roller is certain to cause quite a stir. The new mid-range HD+ 90 and HD+ 110 tandem roller series will be an additional highlight. The new CompactLine range of small tandem rollers is similarly packed full of innovative new ideas.
GRW 280: revolutionary overall design and innovative detailed solutions
Anyone who sees the new GRW 280 cannot fail to be impressed. The rubber wheeled roller, whose operating weight can be varied between 10 and 28 tonnes, employs a totally new operating philosophy boasting exceptional visibility, a new and intelligent loading concept and the highest safety standards.
The operator works in a roomy and fully-glazed panoramic cab equipped with a comfortable seat and well-designed instrument panel that remains permanently in his line of sight for ease of operation.
Hamm, the inventor of rubber wheeled rollers, is forging a new path with this revolutionary design. Built to offer the operator the best possible overall view of both the machine and the construction site, it has already attracted the attention of leading international product designers. The new GRW was presented with the iF design award 2010 shortly before its launch.
The new rubber wheeled roller is packed full of new functional and safety features that will be unveiled to the experts at bauma.
HD+ 90 and HD+ 110: the comfortable mid-range series
Hamm's next new development, the HD+ range of tandem rollers, was also a recipient of the iF design award 2010. An impressive selection of new mid-range HD+ rollers will be on show on Hamm's stand at bauma. The range contains a total of 10 types of machine.
The HD+ 90 (operating weight approx. 9 tonnes) and HD+ 110 (operating weight approx. 11 tonnes) articulated tandem rollers offer fantastic visibility thanks to their compact design and new XXL cab. An unusually large cab, with a vaulted glass roof, awaits the operator. A perfect view of the roller drums and the water sprinkler is available from every position, while the operating console with its display is never out of sight. It is permanently attached to the seat, yet does not hinder the operator in any way. The intelligent design of the glass cab prevents any of the supporting pillars from obstructing the operator's line of sight. Moreover, the cab is even ROPS-compatible.
The newly designed articulated joint allows a far superior weight distribution in relation to comparable tandem rollers. This results in increased directional stability and improved compaction quality, especially on bends and roundabouts. The offset during crab steering has almost doubled compared with the previous models in the HD series. This means that the tandem roller has plenty of room to manoeuvre, for neat processing of edges for example.
Productivity has also been increased - the large water tank on the new HD+ enables the machine to work an entire shift without having to be refilled.
Hamm produces 10 mid-range models for the market, with weight class having a vibration roller, an oscillation roller and a combination roller. Hamm also offers a high-frequency version for the US market, where compaction is carried out at significantly higher speeds. The 9 tonne roller is also available in 2 models with separate roller drums - one for vibration, one for oscillation. During dynamic compacting work, the operator can use the front and rear roller drums at the same time but at different frequencies. The new tandem rollers are therefore ideally equipped to compact modern, highly sensitive road construction materials or materials that are difficult to compact.
CompactLine now offers even more ride comfort
Exceptional visibility thanks to the slim line front end, low machine height and good handling are among the most important features of the CompactLine. These always have been and always will be the strengths of the CompactLine from Hamm. However, Hamm has now improved the "internal aspects" of the series - in the future, drive will be provided by extremely quiet yet powerful Kubota engines. In the HD 13 and HD 14 models in particular, engine power is increased by around 15%.
An operator platform that provides even more insulation against vibration increases the level of comfort. Extra handles provide easier access to the operator platform, and a new mechanism makes the foldable ROPS frame simpler to operate.
One operating philosophy for all
Anyone who takes a closer look at the new Hamm rollers at bauma will quickly recognise that all rollers employ the same modern and ergonomic operating philosophy. The operator in both the new GRW and HD+ models can turn in comfort and move laterally right up to the outer edges in an easily movable seat with integrated operating console. The symbols and layout of the operating elements follow the same pattern in all new developments, creating an environment that the operator will quickly become familiar with. Thanks to the simple controls and self-explanatory symbols, the operator can concentrate fully on compacting. The machines can be manoeuvred safely and compacting carried out precisely even at night thanks to the illuminated instrument panel and machine lighting.
